eBay's totally crushing my soul

I keep's building me up only to kick me down :(

I got super sniped on a Dawes Super Galaxy last month and it just royally screwed me over on a Major Nichols tourer (how often does something like that come along). I bid a decent amount but the second highest bid wasn't enough so it didn't go over the reserve. I emailed the seller straight away saying I was still interested, for some reason the auction finished at 10am, and I was at work, but I was sneeking off to check my phone constantly, I wanted it so much. Realised about 5 hours later that the message hadn't sent, so I went to email him again and realised that he'd relisted it at a Buy It Now price well within my budget and it had already sold!

Feeling so gutted right now. I really really really wanted it...

edit: Sorry just realised this is the wrong forum, maybe a mod would kindly move it for me

Sorry to hear about that, I reckon we've all been there, and anyone who hasn't will be one day...

Worst case of eBay-rage I ever saw was one day at work when a colleague had his cursor hovering ready to place a higher bid as the seconds counted down to the end of the sale... only for an IT technician to switch off the modem to "carry out some maintenance".

I won't repeat the language used here... the IT technician is unlikely to ever forget it though...

I've got an old Raliegh Ritmo mid 80's I think (reynold tubing, shim 105 groupset, weinmann brakes) you can have for £50 ,if your interested PM me and I'll sort out some pics , only glitch is you'd have to collect it from Leeds.

maybe I'm not seeing 8) it but surely the answer is to bid highrt?

.... but we all try to bid as little as possible so that is why these situations arise. :?

Totally agree with you santaHul.

Selling especially of bulky items is now becoming such a nightmare I've started using fixed priced selling on gumtree for some items for county wide sales only.

The last few sales I have had to put up in big red bold underlined print at the very beginning of the advert cash on pick up no couriers but still get people bidding who after winning ask, when can I paypal you and what day do you want to sit in all day waiting for a courier that may never turn up as your employer will wilingly give you a day off?

Now I'm adopting the stance that it if it is a large item ebay won't see it.

If you really really want something add it to gixen, it's when you don't add to gixen because you think it'll go too high and it goes for pennies you'll bang your head, 2nd lesson gixen eveything however daft.

I feel the pain. Missed mint Pace Carbon Ti RC31 go for 52 Euro because the computer decided it needed to re-start itself. Rule one: Don't rely on IT when you really need it. Rule two: ask the seller what the reserve amount is. Rule three: Bid high straight away if you really really want it.
