Ebay Bastads!

This was more about the fact I always chip in about how I have had few problems. I tend to be very patient with people, I know sometimes cannot something packed or sent quickly. On this case I have someone who may or may not be taking the p.

Will be opening a dispute if the refund is not done within the 1-2 days they have stated, and they don't get back to me.

Haven't had many issues with Ebay over the years. Last major one was a seller of a camera who had Special Delivery in his listing but once I used the BIN he demanded cash on collection, in the 'West End'.

Once I told him I was on holiday, but he could drop it in to my sister in law at Charing Cross Police Station he backed out of the deal and tried to claim I was a non payer.

My point in starting this thread is that out of the last twenty transactions I have had on Ebay as a buyer, six have now been unsatisfactory.

That is a swing from my previous experience, so I feel something has indeed changed about Ebay.

Just my experience - and given your other comments about how you feel ebay has changed - whenever I encounter a "messer" who's (for whatever reason) not selling / sending - I open the dispute / claims procedure.

True that may seem reactive, harsh - and may delay a payment, slightly - but I feel it commands more attention, and ultimately, keeps things visible and official within ebay.

That may put up the back of the "seller", but thing is, in those circumstances, they have YOUR money, are not selling, nor have any intention of sending the item(s) - so that's YOUR money, they still have - if they're not refunding immediately, then it's far from unreasonable to open a claim / dispute - makes things all official, and may actually save you some time in the end, in terms of a refund.

That may be the way to go now. My trading on Ebay was mainly years ago, and involved a lot of pretty fragile and difficult to transit items. I guess that is where I got patient, often it would take a couple of weeks for some dude in rural Montana to get something crated up and sent. I would rather it was done well than done fast.

In this case it is just an old motherboard, and the guy said he was refunding within 24 hours, then when that time expired I enquired as to whether there was a problem. He then offered to send the item without the box he says is lost. I would have been happy at this but for his prior lack of communication. I did some snooping and he is only a lad, probably short of the funds.

Out of thousands of transactions in the past, I have never been stiffed via Paypal, so I am generally reassured.

I did once buy an effects processor for over a grand to be crated up to Shetland, and the seller claimed to have had it stolen from his car on the way to send it. Turned out he had pawned it. Just happened to take it to a dealer I used to supply. I still went through with the deal!

The only really unpleasant buyer I ever had was for a camera lens, he threatened me because I told him to sell it rather than return it half way around the globe, and I would cover his loss. He wanted a discount, and it was a scam from the get go. I knew it would sell for more than he paid.

This deal was less than £100, so I won't get in a tizzy just yet. :)

So now, I stipulate cash on collection on anything they are picking up locally. If they try to pay me with PayPal, I'll immediately refund it until they turn up with the cash.
Which is what Ebay/Paypal advise. Only an idiot would pay accept a Paypal transfer and hand over goods face to face.

It's gutting having to refund when it happens though, I never got the £600 in the end but at least I kept the ring.

"I am having some problems with my Bank at the minute...

If I had the funds available I would have done it instantly, I am in no way trying to cheat you out of your money and I have every intention of returning your money to you but I can't at this minute.

Please bear with me, as soon as I have an ETA on when I can process the refund I will let you know."

If the dude had been honest about it in the first place I would have patiently waited. Hrumphhhh.

Not being honest from early on, and I would infer them as somebody who will mess you around.

Have you opened a claim / dispute, yet?

People who mess around with money that isn't theirs, is a big reason why I open claims / disputes as soon as something is up. That might seem harsh or put the back up, of some sellers - like I could care - at that point it's not their money, it's mine.

It is in process from the point where his second promise to refund elapsed. Paypal claim.

I have to give a little bit of leeway. It is my approach in life.

Not getting an accurate and full address once things start to deteriorate is one aspect of Ebay I cannot stomach these days.

That, and using mobiles as contact numbers.

Checking someone's home address and land line was one way of supporting some faith they were not messing around back in the day.

When selling something valuable I always used to insist on name, address and number from new Ebayers, otherwise I just cancelled their bids and barred them.

Purchased an item and in the sellers listing quoted : item packaged in bubblewrap in a box and posted RM 1st class recorded Delivery. posts out within one working day.

My item arrived 9 days later in a used filthy bubblebag ! RM 2nd class not even recorded and was dated 6 days after i payed for the item :?
Man was i angry and demanded a full postage refund, he told me to get fecked so i reported him to ebay,
several days later i got a message and refund from the seller telling me to never bid on his items.

Tosser

I've had trouble lately from a few sellers selling bits as nearly new, when they've been proper tatty, and another guy who sold me a so called group set, which turned out to be short cage mixed with triple crank, mixed with Bob's your uncle, all tatty and scruffy, after the description stating no scratches or scuffs.

These guys make me want to scream, so I wrote a straight to the point message, and got a very angry and threatening letter back telling me not to contact them again, or else.

If you're a member here, I'd like very much to contact you again - with a big stick. :D
