East Dartmoor adventures on the Marin

I grew up in Devon. It is a wonderful place. I did Ten Tors in 1986 maybe? The very hot year with people dropping out his heat related illness. Did a lot of hiking and biking up there.

Your thread has made me remember. Cheers.

Superb ride report.
Very jealous of anyone who lives close to national parks and other places of extreme beauty. I'm out every chance I get and Northamptonshire has some lovely little spots, but nothing as breathtaking as this, and certainly nowhere as wide open and rugged.

Dartmoor is pretty special in terms of its feeling of wilderness, probably as good as it gets in the South of England IMO.

I was never that far away from a road on this loop, but it's possible to get a good distance from any roads or dwellings right in the middle (admittedly rather boggy!) bits of the moor around Fur Tor.

I was based in West Berks but my job took me all over the country. I kept a Lava Dome single speed in the boot so I tried to ride after work as much as I could, (healthier than solo drinking in the hotel bar on expenses). I had quite a library of MTB ride books plus "tear out maps" from the magazines.
I've enjoyed your posts on Exmoor and Dartmoor, they reminded me of some great rides , particularily the "Exmoor Beast" and a Polaris.
Any way keep the "rides" coming please as I often go back to re read them.
