E-Stay advantages

Bigger tyres.

The elevated stay bikes look like they might be a good candidate for a 27.5 conversion........., i guess I will have to pull my Redline out of he shed for a measure.

Shorter back end
Quiet running (no chain slap)
No/less chainsuck
Better mud clearance and less build up by the BB
And of course they look cool

Wonder why they're didn't take over the world?!

Heavier
Wagging back ends
BB flex
Cracks from the above...

Would love a belt driven AlpineStars EOS, now there's a thought for the future... :D

There are some modern versions, I have one of these:

Apologies for the Italian, just grabbed a random description off the web.
The frame has clearance for 29x2.1" tyres, has disc mounts and because it has a relatively high bottom bracket I can fit wider still 26er wheels.
Its a hybrid technically but its very offroad capable. Weirdest point is its an Aluminium frame made in Portugal not Taiwan

Great responses, thanks gents. So in terms of tyre clearance etc do you think it could be possible to fit say 26x3.0 tyres ? I'm thinking of building some sort of retro fat bikealike and am looking for ideas/frames that would suit.

That who I'm currently doing.
I think I might get 3" on the back of my alpinestars (although on-one sell 2.7" for a good price) but don't think 3" will fit in the forks.

Yeah, just been looking at pics of the A/stars, the forks look a bit on the tight side......
