In a moment of pure bad judgement I agreed to do the Coast and Castles ride Edinburgh to Newcastle. Then decided I needed a steed to do it on. Had Raleigh Road Ace of 1982 but thought it might be a bit severe for 70mls a day with no training.
Thought my Brompton wouldn't suit (although easy to put in a taxi when tired!)
I have a Dynatech MT5 but a bit low at the front and stretched for all day riding
I had a Kona Cinder Cone frame and a Raleigh Odyssey frame. In another moment of madness I decided all my bikes would be English so Dynatech it was. 653 main tubes and 531 rear triangle should make it comfy enough. The ride is supported so will not be carrying panniers etc. so the high BB should not matter. This was how it started.
As you can see it was a bit scruffy and I was going to use it with 700c wheels. It came from the factory with M730 so it was going to get that aswell. As is well known these frames are bonded and there has been Forum discussion on getting these powdercoated as the go into the oven at 200degrees C for 2 hours. I went to www.lsn-coatings.co.uk and they where very good to me. They put it the oven first and did a pull/drag/shake and swing on it before doing anything else. It survived. I used a Kona Project2 fork and Mavic adaptor for the brakes at the rear. They painted it in 2 blues merging just before the rear triangle. The finish is 95% perfect with a couple ofbubbles if you look and search.
This is how it looks now. Cinelli bars and Tri frame for comfort and varying hand holds. M900 cantis and cassette, M730 drive train. Sora levers. Mavic Module4 rims and Schwalbe Land Cruisers. Unfortunately I ummed and arred for too long and the Decals have not arrived yet.
