How old is this system of brake, I'm used to modern ones but recently found either a mafac or weinmann dual pivot that looked quite old. i thought they were a newish idea :?

Everything in cycling has been done before.

Dual pivot side-pull brakes as we know them date from the late eighties, but dual-pivot centre-pulls, like the MAFAC Racer were popular from the fifties into the mid eighties.

I wouldn't be surprised to see pre-war versions of both.

These?

Very similar to the GB Syncro and Altenburger brakes that appeared in the early 60's. In fact, they were all probably the same, just branded different.

Can't understand why the GB and Altenburger ones aren't listed on Velobase. They're not particularly rare.

I dont think Mafac ever made anything like this, mainly center-pulls as Jim says.

I would guess they are actually centre-pull brakes.

As mentioned the current type of dual pivot sidepulls date from the 80s, but are not a new design.

I use the GB/Altenberger Synchron on my Continental - they work very well and are easier to set up than CPs.
