Drop out hanger damage, can I just twat it ?

Ok so the bike I bought on ebay has arrived after being forwarded by Chris, thanks Chris

Only thing is the vendor who assured me he had 'sent loads of bikes before mate' didn't brace the rear drop outs and guess what ? The drive side one has been smacked by some thing and is quite deformed, I've managed to open it out but it's still quite bent and wont accept the rear wheel, question is how much can I twat this thing about before it messes up ?

"twatting" it is more likely to lead to the dropout "dropping off" completely...

try using an adj spanner and use the jaws of it to neatly grip the dropout and bend it into shape.

failing that a bit of local heat on the area would help it to bend back into shape without breakage (will bugger up any paint 'tho).

but as above, a pic of the damage would help with the prognosis.

Yeah I 'm not going to twat itit was just an expression, gentle persuasion will be more like it, I'd like to avoid heat if poss though. Here are some photos...

If it's a bike to ride I'd seriously consider having a replacement new dropout brazed in.

Looking at the pics, I'd strongly advise against trying to cold-set that yourself. IMO it'll require a professional to safely get that back in shape.

Don't worry about it Chris, absolutley no blame is attached to you whatsoever. I've messaged the guy on ebay, hopefully we can come to an amicable solution. This is the first frame that I've bought that has been shipped without the chainstays being braced, typical :roll:

Could you not clamp it in a big vice, and tighten it as hard as you could and see if it straightend it?
