Dog owners, your views please

I am sure in that extreme scenario most of us would be prepared to act.

Not sure it is really necessary to disparage other people's feelings about animals in the way your are doing Fluffy.

Yes, they are just animals. So are you.

I would have no hesitation taking whatever action was necessary to protect my animals from other animals.

Even if it had mauled someone to death?

Now that's the only worth while reason for shooting a dog and the only time i could actually bring myself to do so ..

A friend of mine work in a rescue centre. Staffies are the most commonly abandoned/ brought in. Can't understand it, I mean who WOULDN'T want a fighting dog?!

i take it you have never had a staffy one of the best dogs going, and as the saying goes it's the idiots that own them :!:
Very miss understood breed,if trained and taken care of ,of course

I'm not gonna troll through 6 pages in case its been said already but "there's no such thing as a bad dog its bad owners who are the problem".
Not true. There are bad dogs, but yes, it is usually the owner.
As for Staffies. I've only ever known one wrong'un, and that was the next door neighbour's, 40 years ago. The rest are usually in clink for not being aggressive enough. Lovely dogs, and those re-homed always know they're the lucky ones!

I don't see why I would find it hard, they are just animals

In theory a lot of things seem possible, reality is often very different. I'm not sure if you're being sincere, but I highly doubt that you would be able to kill a dog and live with it on your conscience

Try working in an abattoir, we killed fking shedloads of animals daily.
Animals injured or unwanted dont receive this pet lover attitude. We just shoot them dead.

OR we could talk about Dolphins and whales and how cruel that is, while harvesting millions of cod and haddock and other sea creatures. The fishing industry doesnt use anaesthetics. Fish are butchered alive.

Fancy some veal from down M&S ? Want me to describe bleeding milk veal ?.

Dogs are lovely loyal creatures, but theyre still animals and we kill en mass some animals, yet afford status to others :?
Is it cruel to keep a dog locked away ? given all the dogs ive known enjoy more than anything romping across land in pursuit of sticks or rabbits.
Alas they dont afford the rabbits any special protection status.
Is it not fairer and safer to anaesthetise it ?. As it cannot be re-homed.

Working in certain environments normalises killing. We get that.

Most people would baulk at killing anything.

I have seen it myself, so many times.

Back against the wall, most people find killing hard to do, even in war.

It is not natural.

I also would argue strongly as animals rise up the evolutionary ladder, they assume more traits making it harder to see them as 'other' creatures.

The idea animals are somehow our inferiors and thus nothing to be worried about is being overruled in time, and I am sure we will reach a point where we stop killing them.

This was not a thread about people feelings towards dogs or animals, why should people who are not bothered and do not care about dogs side step their thoughts.

Many around the world eat dog, it's a good source of meat as are many animals.
If you wish to waste money looking after a few then do so, that is up to you, but why waste money looking after some unloved dogs*. Rescue centres are always moaning about not being able to afford and look after moor dogs. I gave a solution that makes room and solves the cash flow problem.

If dogs are so loved by everyone, first everyone would have a dog, look after it forever.
Lots of people don't have dogs, lots of people do not care about dogs and as seen even people that think they love dogs don't and abondon the buggers.
If dog lovers stop thinking everyone loves dogs people would get on a bit better.

Also I'm not saying we go out and shoot animals just for the sake of it, this is more like culling.
People go out game shooting, seem quite happy with the idea of culling and then eating the kill.
No difference.

Only some obscure Western idea that a dog has status over other animals, probably came about as it was a useful tool to go and kill other animals.
Other countries happily just eat dog.

*I waste money on unloved bikes it could be said, but I don't cry about all the bikes getting crushed and recycled.

Re:

As an ever expanding race, we will eventually starve to death as a result of our inability to produce enough food.
Stripping the world of it's resources, eating any types of animals that are not poisonous, while others starve to death due to lack of natural habitat and face extinction.

But lets carry on putting dogs in struggling rescue centres, just to keep them alive, cute little things!

Just thought I'd put that out there, before I run for cover!

La la la la, I can't hear you! La la la
