I've tried the vice, and that hasnt shifted it, when i took out the bb (with a meter long extension pipe) there was a lot of powdery rust dust, before i try the heat method or try my hands at caustic soda, I am asking if someone with experience wants to give it a go??? a payment may be able to be made...

No it doesnt.

It eats away at aluminium at a relaxed glacial pace.

Strong alkalis are the way forwards and even then depending on how stuck it is, you may still need some brute force in assistance.

They are not fun at all.

the bb was a right bitch to remove, the LH cup came off the bb, thats how stuck it was, so 2 cups and a bb internals, was going ot flog the frame on, but the more i think about how to shift it, the more i am starting appreciate it, and will keep it.

I've just removed a 30 year stuck Campagnolo post from my frame using proper materials and a bench vice.

Would have to charge labour though.

if making it cold is the best way, perhaps if i source a co2 fire extinguisher, and spray on the tube might help.

You could try a Carbon Dioxide life-jacket or tyre inflator, as they're cheaper than a whole extinguisher, although not as much fun CO2 extinguishers make a cool howling noise!

Maybe the night before try heating it with an electric hot air gun. It'll make them both expand but the idea is they expand at different rates, so that any corrosion gets snapped free. It shouldn't get hot enough to melt aluminium but it might make the paint blister.

Hiya Matt, got the same problem at the moment with a really nice Raleigh Reynolds 708 tubed touring frame. Tried the seatpost in vice & trying to turn the frame method a few days ago to no avail. Dont want to spoil the paint or the Reynolds decal so haven't tried heat. For now am continuing to squirt penetrating oil/wd40/GT85 etc at it each day & will have another go in a bigger vice sometime soon.
Update at Haldon on Sunday?

I am familiar with the caustic soda technique, slow but reliable. Anyone tried using Oven Pride? it has a ph of 13.5 so pretty strong stuff. Should disolve alu posts rapidly.
