Does someone want ot remove my stuck seatpost? UPDATE v2!!!

I used a floor polish stripper with a 13.5 ph. Much better than coke but still not the magic bullet. Took time and still required a serious amount of physical force. The second frame I tried this method on was unsuccessful.

Not patronising but how long have you left it soaking in penetraiting oil? I left my kili for about 3 weeks in the stuff, topped it up every few days. That made a massive difference and it eventually came out with mole grips. This post was stuck solid and only about two inches of post above the tube.

mine's had a week or so + some lude squirted through bottle cage bolt hole so it runs up from the bottom. Need to make a plasticene funnel as a reservoir to hold a decent quantity of oil. Don't have any of the stuff though.

I have an Attitude which of course is aluminuim with a stuck post, don't care about wrecking the paint, previous owner tried the vice gag and loads of penetrating oil, has about 2" of seatpost exposed, anyone got any other ideas?

You could try a dremel with the flexy extension and a cutting drill attachment....would take ages though

The following method has a high success rate if you have plenty of seatpost showing.

Pre soak with penetrating spray (the longer the better)

Have someone hold the frame with it's bottom bracket on a solid block of wood on solid ground.

Use a hammer to carefully knock the seatpost further in. Each time it moves spray more oil.

This breaks the fused join of the two metals and it can then be removed via the above mentioned methods

If your worried that the post may go all the way in , then drill through it and use a piece of rod or a long bolt to act as a stop. The hole also aids when removing.

It may sound weird to knock a stuck seatpost further in but it's the short sharp shock that's the important part of the method. Also make sure the ground and block are solid and stable and that the person holding the frame is safe . Wear goggles etc.

Ive used the tow hook on the back of my car rope to ti round the BB on the bike and metal fence before which works clamping the seat and seatpost between the gaps of the fence

It worked pulling the seatpost out the bike rust as well but takes two people for this job
:D
