do any modern fork manufacturers cater for 1 inch steerers?

I'm thinking about upgrading the fork on my Rourke MTB, but the 1 inch steerer makes it hard to find a decent / suitable retro suspension fork. Going modern would allow a modern front disc, but I've never seen any good modren sus forks with a 1 inch steerer - does anyone know if any current suspension fork manufacturers can provide a 1 inch steerer? Oh, and a fork without too much travel (80 mm at most).

I have seen people pressing new steerers into their fork crowns. So it would be possible to fabricate a custom aluminium steerer. But the build height will still be a bigger problem.
Search for a 1" SID, they are not cheap, but should cost less than customizing a new fork.

assuming you get a metal crown you can probably clamp or press whatever size steerer you like, with a bit of know-how and a few tools anyway.

Marzocchi xc500 had 1 inch steerers and I think the xc400 had a clamped steerer, making any changes simple. Non disc though. I did once convert some early bombers to 1 inch by making a new steerer and silver brazing it to the original part, that was a press fit into the crown.

There's enough really nice Pace forks around with removable steerers and disc mounts....

And they'd still look cool too

which models of Pace would you suggest?

For this probably RC36. I can highly recommend speaking to Tim at Fork English (ex Pace). He can build you one up from stock parts with 1" steerer. His member name on here is justbackdated

Edit sorry see you want disc tabs - maybe RC36 not ideal but ask Tim what he thinks. Sure he has a solution 8)

I had an xc 400,it was quite good as any steerer could be used, I switched 1 1/4 to 1 1/8 when I got a Torus,I ran discs with it it but it was the old Formula I.S. with a little widget that was very common place back then that clamped the caliper into the cast holes on the lower leg,Im sure that set up is rocking horse poo nowadays though....
