Disc brakes any good ??

After thinking about it-about the only thing I could think of that would make the disc brakes go away instantly is if you get brake fluid from a leak on them or maybe chain oil or WD40 over spray, otherwise not much else can go wrong with discs.
Bracken. Getting a sprig of fresh green bracken under the pads means instant death for at least half an hour.

Well, if you say it happened to you, then that's another thing, I guess, to go wrong. However, with the extremely tight clearances between the disc pad and the rotor, I would think that a rare occurrence-BUT-I probably have never ridden through Bracken-is it slimy or something? If something slimy got on the rotor/pad it would for sure mess with it, and at that point it would have to dry/wear off the pads. The rotor/caliper combo is far enough off the ground to keep it out of most things on the trail. :D

Anything caught between the rotor and pad would be ground away to nothing
At least you would imagine it would, given the holes in the rotor :?
