Disc Brake Question

I'm hoping to get some Hope disc brakes to put on to my '00 Z1s but I'm pretty confused by the whole caliper number thing. Which numbers fit the IS mount on a Z1?

I have tried googling and going on the hope website (I've also e-mailed them but haven't heard back yet) but haven't been able to find anything.

The number on the calliper isn't only for the mount type it's also related to what size disc you intend to run.

IIrc the most common ones were number 5, which was IS mount with a 165mm disc, and number 3, which was IS mount with a 185mm disc.

which brakes will you be using ? the only ones to watch out for for non i.s. mounting is the old c2's . the rest of the hope range will all fit .

i ran 160mm discs with number.3 calipers on my 99 z1 bams a couple of years ago if that helps

No 3 calipers run 185mm discs on the front and 165mm on the rear.
No 5 calipers run 165 mm discs on the front and 145mm on the rear.
Both nos 3 and 5 are IS mount.

From memory, early Z1s had Formula disc mounts. They look like IS, but are closer together :roll:

I had the exact same problem a few weeks ago, I bought a pair of DH4's off this forum without asking questions about weather they were going to fit, I just thought I'd try my luck. Neither caliper was numbered but I found out that one of them was 3 and one was a 6. The 6 is meant for Boxxers and the 3 fitted fine on the front and the back. So I searched round for a number 3 caliper half and found a brand new one for sale in a US shop.

I'm running a 99ish Z1 with 205 discs so I also had to get a +20mm IS to IS adaptor.

On the back i'm also running a 205 disc so I had to get a +40mm IS to IS,

Just make sure you have a load of washers as its very likely you will need to spend some time getting it lined up correctly so the disc is central between the pads.
