That Specialized is cool!

Never thought i would ever say that.

Al. :D

Never mind that - I'm almost getting to like some of the new offerings from Trek (that Top Fuel 9.9 on Singeltrack right now is pretty tasty)

Treks whole 08 range takes some beating!

some of their hybrids and x-country stuff are very nice. Well for modern stuff anyway.

It's possible if you buy the Zaskar, you'll at least get some money back on it when he grows out of it, unlike newer bikes.

Get him a modern, after all one day he will look back on this modern as his era's retro!

Is there any subtle way of asking? Even as a 10 year old I had an idea of what I thought was cool and what wasn't, and I don't think this was aligned with my parents ideas  Don't get me wrong could be he'll love it and no doubt the zaskar is cool but perhaps he's after a BMX or a DJ bike or summat.

Good comment Jerky, I'll probably just let him decide,

LongboardSi the FSR gets good right ups, it is a scaled down Hardrock FSR with the same frame material and suspension design (with cartridge bearings at the pivots, lock out forks)... weight wise I'm not sure but I will be checking that before I buy. I'll look at the Treks too as that is what he currently has, but the front forks on his current one are absolutley rubbish, you just can't buy a decent kids bike without them just now.

I would use Isla bikes if I lived close enough to check them out, I wouldn't buy a bike for my kids without putting them on it first....unless it was a Zaskar :)

Well I asked miniKen tonight, showed him lost of pictures, and he chose the Specialized, He like the frame shape, but said he didn't think he'd need full Sus! an educated boy:)

The Zaskar came second :( , he said he doesn't mind if things aren't new :) He really liked it, but it was second and he made a good first choice.

He didn't like the Kona's which is what I was most suprised with and when I showed him the Stinky (including the price) he said never buy me a bike with that written on it as he would get the mickey taken out of him!

Retro

Got my 13 year old lad this recently. 14 inch 2000 Zaskar, modern bits but retro quality frame, with cnc drop outs and super light. off to put him discs on it next, it rides like a dream, but tyre clearance is max 2.1. Errrrr only snag I struggle to keep up with him now when we do the Trails! It only weighes 21 pounds btw. Which is what you want for a nipper. Its also now got a King Headset, Ti Bars, Thomson Stem, Hone Cranks, Pace hubs, Am I spoiling him?
