sorry to dig this up, butI've no doubt that is a pantera frame. I've 2, a 14.5 and a 16.

The driveside chainstay is dented in to allow chainring clearence. The zakars don't have this.

Plus it il be a lot heavier.

I think I prefer a pantera, the reason is it is over engineered and the thicker tubing means it cant fatigue as easily! the 14.5 looks great! ws

if anyone out there has another 14.5 I will gladly take it!

And a Zaskar isnt over engineered??

I think my point is pretty valid and I didn't see anyone esle mention it, unless you can tell me otherwise. I know about al the other differences.

why is the zaskar over engineered? if anything the need of a brake booster says it is not. The Pantera weighs a lot more than a lot of frames due to the tube thickness and doesn't need all the gussets with tubes that are so heavy a gauge. It's only designed for light non comp trail riding unlike the zaskar.

All GT's of that era were " overbuilt " and light , they were also price specific and branded
Think of it this way , you build a bike frame and market it , people buy it , what's next ?
You refine it , it make it stronger , faster , lighter , cheaper , 4 new models appear
Quadruple your market share
Zaskar good , pantera , good Avalanche ,???? , trending ......

Re:

I've had 5 zaskars, and I don't think a single one was over engineered. Each part of the design aided the performance, apart from the brake mount area. After all they NEVER changed the basic design for very good reasons, so hardly over engineered.
The lower end frames were v heavy compared to other lower end frames at the time, so over engineered by by vitrue of the signature of the design.
