Difference between M737 & M739?????

The RD swing arms are different as well. I don't recall which was which, but one was a DX-like silver front and black back plate of the swingarm, and one was solid feeling metal like 730 series XT.

Here are some pics. The short cage mech is the one that seemed higher quality to me, the long cage is the one with the black/silver swingarm. Not sure which is which, as they've both been sold forward.

So I'm gonna run my M739 mech with an earlier M737 group.... Few will spot the difference unless up close and fewer still will care that it ain't M737 anyway:lol:

You'd want to use the 739 anyway, as the narrower bolt and spring assembly of the 737, discussed earlier, make the 737 a weaker derailleur...more prone to wear and slop. So inadvertantly you are headed in the right direction anyway! 8)

I think those are both M739 derailleurs. "rd.jpg" is an RD-M739-GS, while the other two pictures are of an RD-M739-SGS. The RD-M737-GS also had the more sculpted, polished aluminium cage. In both series, the capacity details were printed onto the SGS cage, and stamped into the GS version.

One was definitely 737 and one 739.
Sorry, yes, you're quite right.

The long cage mech is an RD-M737-SGS, and the mid-cage is an RD-M739-GS. You can make out the extra depth of the upper knuckle forging in the 739.
