i'm genuinly interested, not questioning your statement. Kona and Brodie had much in common back then so it might be possible. i just haven't seen one yet.

This early Kona has curved forks that are colour matched to the frame. I'm not 100% as to whether it is described as a Project 2, but it seems to show Konas could be purchased without the straight bladed versions. I have seen Konas of this vintage with P2's as well, so it kind of begs the question of whether these forks were perhaps fitted to prototypes before the P2 was finalised?

That is Heathy's 1988 Fire mountain and no less an authority than Adam Gent said that it was the only curved P2 he had ever seen. 1988 was the first year when the Kona brand name was used and one can only assume that there was a certain amount of experimentation going on and this P2 was part of that. He did seem to think that it was a P2, but if it was 'special' it seems odd for it to be fitted to what was then the base model in the range, so it's a bit of a mystery.

On the wider question, P2s went from 39cms to 41cms for 1994 and remained threaded up until 96. So it seems unlikely that any threadless 39cm P2s were ever made.

The 88 catalogue pictures the Fire Mountain with a curved fork, while the Explosif and Cinder Cone have a straight fork with rake.

You mean you're the only person on the entire planet Earth with a copy of the 1988 Kona catalogue????

And you never said????

And here is page 2. Also downsized so it can upload to the forum.

I also have what is I think the only review of the Score from an old issue of Bike magazine (Sep 2000.) I don't have a scanner, but have been meaning to scan and post for a while now, so promise I will get that done soon. Have to send one to SteveK anyway, even though he sold his. Also reviewed and compared is the Mongoose DX 10.5, Moots Mountaineer and Willits Mountie B-29...all from 2000 I would guess. So let me know if the other reviews have an interest.
