Did Scott Uni Shocks have Damping?

'Cos my Judys haven't any more either! Couldn't work out how to get the damn oil into them despite having instructions. Does anyone have one of the Scott forks? Do they ride like a pogo stick? I'm not sure I ride quick enough to notice anymore! From what I could tell (no oil on the carpet when they came apart) there was no oil in them before either!

Give me hope. If a fork was designed by a big bike company without damping, who needs it? Pah! Not me. (I hope.)
 
Unishocks worked using a form of friction damping. The bushes (bearing surfaces) are long tubes that run the full length of the sliders, as I suspect you found out if you've taken them apart, rather than the more common ring bushes in modern forks and it was this constant friction that supposedly slowed the rebound

My set came factory fit on the Rocky Team Comp and I raced them and hammered them for years but I had to run a brake booster to stiffen them up 'cause the arch wasn't up to it, they needed constant attention and the adjustment did nowt – I read something on the interweb a while back that said many were recalled for safety by scott too :cry:

If you're planning to service them it's quite easy, but you'll need a pin spanner to unscrew the caps on the ends of the unicrown legs once you've taken the sliders off, then give the springs, or elastomers (depending on your model) a healthy coat of grease and away you go. I used to lightly grease the bushes too – it took away most of the damping, but prevente them from seizing up in wet weather.
