The way I understand it is this as I made a mistake buying a 1" stem..... which is for an 1 1/8th steerer

A 1" steerer will be for an 1 1/8th head set and a 7/8th steerer will be for an 1" headset so measuer the steerer, add 1/8th of an inch and you have the head set size....

Pleased to be proved wrong though :D

Don't be confused. 1 1/8th forks have 1" steerer diameters.
This isn't quite right. What I think you meant to say was that 1 1/8 threaded forks have 1" internal diameter steerers and take 25.4 ED quill stems (which are called 1 1/8 quill stems).

I believe that the Hahanna and Fire Mountai still had 1" systems in 1993, so this fork will have a 1" (ED) steerer as stated by the seller.

My 92 is 1 1/8 inch and my 96 is a 1 1/8 inch the 92 being threaded and the 96 being ahead Arnt all project 2 forks 1 1/8 inch threaded?

Now, funny this should come up.

I had a 1991 Kona - I forget which one but it was a low end model with 400LX, in a pea green colour

Anyway, the Velocity stem was stuck in the forks never likely to come out via my methods back in 1998. Sooo, I cut the stem off in line with the top of the steerer and in popped a 22.2mm Quill stem, which fitted perfectly.

Marvellous, all fixed and happy.
