Diamondback Axis Team Bikes - No. 78 & 312/500

Retro Newbie
Just purchased two vintage DBR Axis team bikes, in near mint condition! Numbers 78 and 312 of 500!

Got them from the original owners who barely rode them and took real good care of their stuff. Everything works great, except the shocks. I've already sourced replacement elastomers so will get them tuned up soon

I am based in Texas but found my way to this forum as there isn't much info on these bikes, except here on RetroBike. I’m interested to know the history of these. Why only 500? What’s the story?

I'll be selling both of these so am interested to know what they are worth, but also want to learn about them. Any info you can share would be amazing!
