Degreasing and general crud removal

Evening all, I thought I'd share with you a little tip I have discovered for clean up duties on various bike bits...

As well as being splendid for removing poo from delicate little bottoms, Johnson's Baby Wipes are fantastic at degreasing chains, sprockets, chain rings and generally anything else on your bike that might need cleaning.

Other baby wipes are of course available but they're usually smaller and thinner, not desirable qualities when used for their intended purpose! Despite their claim of being kind to delicate skin, whatever they use to keep them moist is a potent solvent!

I've just completed the winter service on the 531 and have got the grubby Athena bits looking lovely and shiny again after a winter's worth of abuse and have used only the baby wipes and some T cut on the frame.

Morning all,

That is a good tip, we use baby wipes for a load of cleaning around the house/car/garage/garden. Prior to having a baby, we had no idea these existed; so, you could fall into the 'had kids ages ago' or 'have got kids' category and never have the need for them - time to try a packet.

It is worthwhile buying a large box when they come on offer at Tescos.

Used baby wipes for years and are really great in grease removal.

Shaun! Don't travel so fast in the car mate, this will keep the front of the car looking great, but if you do get a front-end full of squatted flies, I would suggest using an old wet through towel and cover the front of the car and leave for half an hour, then just simply wipe off with no scrubbing.

+1 for the über power of baby wipes. I have no idea how folk without children degrease stuff.

I reckon 'Huggies Pure' are the BEST wipes as they stay together whilst using them.

Huggies Pure? Basic Aldi unscented ones do the trick in the Don household! At less than a quid a pack, they're the thinking man's degreasing wipe of choice.

If I allow myself to remember such a time I think they manage to do it as they've got all that wonderful spare time to use up doing things they want to do.

Huggies Pure?

I can get huggies pure for 50p a pack, so I'm more than happy and use them on the bike and for the inside of the car too.
