I received that mc35 today and as suggested, it just isn’t right for the direction I’m going with the build.

I've had Marzocchi and Pace forks with 1" steerers, also had some Rockshox Judy(?) & SID forks that were 1" (Threadless) steerer, they're just far less common than the 1"1/8 versions.
The more retro you go the easier it is to find 1" steerer forks, whether they are still in working order is another matter....
