DBR Axis TT

Help please!!

I have a mid '90's Axis, as I recall it did have Axis TT stickers on the top tube (long gone).
Can anyone tell me if this is a titanium frame from the following code under the bottom bracket?

UBI 0742
U31003479

I has a few brown spots on the frame, I didn't think that Ti corroded?

Help please

Cheers

could be the steel Axis from the same era.
Just realised how dumb my post sounded! The brown pitting isn't like the usual pitting found on steel and it's only around the bb.

Is there a way of finding out which metal this frame is?

stick up a picture - that'll be your best bet. If you have a pic it'll be easy to spot the difference.

The titanium ones had a dull finish, whereas steel looked brushed if that gives you any sort of clue?

Also, titanium has a very pale brown colour like nickel. Steel is a sort of silver gray colour. Magnet would be a good test. Ti ain't, steel is  .

Sounds like yours is a '94 Axis/Apex with the nickel finish......

under the BB my '95 AxisTT says 'MADE IN THE USA' and 'DBR18****'

lets see some pics and we'll soon tell you.....

I thought the most obvious visual differences between the steel and ti frames around this time was the rear dropouts - post a close up pic of them.

Yours is a steel one. The TT you'll be referring to in this case is most likely True Temper (the tubing they used). Mine for comparison:

I thought that too - the colour - but the rear dropouts look like those from the ti frames.

edit: see the photos in this thread.

yes but notice also the fatter tubing (more dull colour), dropouts with cutouts in them and the welding itself in the Ti one. Very different.
