try taking large frogs to australia ....

Kane toads are   I love to kill them all day

wild boar and escaped piggies are on the rise in these ere woods too...one of the few domesticated species that have np problem reverting back to being wild...

It is a fascinating area of concern really, the beavers are back and they are being accused of ruining whole rivers.

They have been talking of bears in Scotland.

For someone who loves free camping, that is some scary stuff!

:)

personally....I like to see a beaver in the woods occasionally

It is a difficult problem for sure hf...on a small island with a large population various concerns will always clash....I just feel a bit sorry for the fish and the fishery owners.....I almost bought a large farm lake years ago.....about 4 acres and I am kinda glad I didnt now....seeing all my hard work undone would have been soul destroying...

I have no problem with native animals being re-intorduced, we were a bit "selfish" getting rid of them in the first place.

They do need put in the right places though and the full food chain needs built up around them, which will mean wolves at some point.

However I think all that means starting with the habitat - mainly proper forestation - which is unlikely because there is no instant cash income from doing that.

What I would like to see is the removal of destructive non-native species, plants and animals.... and especially grey squirrels.

with you there completely....just to say though that otters were not particularly persecuted in the broads.....they died out because of outbreaks of prymnesium which decimated fish stocks.....

No fish no food no otters....

I predict this will be the case again within forty years.... :? :?

Are they 100% sure it is otters causing the problem? Mink are a more likely suspect given the surroundings. Mink are another kettle of fish altogether - pardon the pun.

Well reki....mink have been a nuisance in the past....but otters are definately the culprit in most instances here as they have even been so bold to steel fish off peoples fishing lines infront of them when the landing net has been ready.....

Also otters have been indentified by the enviroment agency by their scat at most sites where there has been a problem.....

But mink....yes....another idiotic mass release by animal rights types  That is the reason our native water vole was nearly extinct in the broads but a mass cull on more than one occasion by the E.A has effectively controlled them 8)

Can I just check that I'm getting this right MM.....you're pissed that people have altered the landscape and built lakes solely so people can sit on their arses and catch fish that have been bred solely to be caught by said people, and now an animal that knows no better has the bare faced cheek to come and do exaclty what the people are doing...take advantage of easy pickings???

Not really getting the point :?

Entirely wrong makster....

if you read all the thread you will see my point and i dont want to go through it all again....

it is not solely the fishing lakes that are being wiped out.....unnatural levels of predators cause problems...

not moaning about the existence of otters but at the existence of ignorant poeple thats all

Also people who fish in fresh water do not remove fish or kill them and leave them laying there...it is illegal....
