Looks like I was wrong about the Tufo tubs....apologies for laying a false trail there. The first CX clinchers I had were green Vittoria Tigre Cross ones and for off-road they were 'orrible in the handling/grip departments. I quickly switched to Hutchinson Pro Golds just before I got into actual CX racing.
