Cyclocross chainset on a MTB

Has anyone put a cyclocross chainset on a MTB? Just wondered how well this would work on a commuter bike with 26" wheels and slick tyres.

Should work fine - I don't think the Big S has messed with the ring spacing on chainsets. Front mech will obvioulsy have to go up, and you may find a bit higher than ideal as the shape of the cage will be curved to fit 42/44 rather than 50/52 rings. Chain will need to be a bit longer, but you may get away with it if you are sensible with the gears.

Currently running 48/38/28 set-up on my AA with no issues with modern 9spd deore bits.

You should be ok with it, I have a Truvativ Touro chainset in 52-42-30 on my Dyna-Tech, and the 1994(?) LX front mech copes with it fine, along with a modern Deore front shifter.

It's a bit "Frankenbike" but with slicks fitted it lets me motor along nicely :D

Ultegra triple on my '97 Kilauea...

...had to 'ding' the chainstay a little to clear it but it was a good 'un 8)
