Get ready for the usual nimby and 'I pay road tax why dont cyclists blah blah blah'. I bet the term lycra lout will be used and mamil for that matter.

I doubt anything positive will come out of it as any glimmer of something nice to say about cycling will be drowned out.

It was actually reasonably balanced with just the one frothing taxi driver and one frothing lorry driver.

The general consensus was that it would be a good idea for basic cycling skills to be part of the driving license or at least better education from a very young age as to how to ride a bike.

Re:

Reading the title of the show I was expecting the worst, but it was actually ok. I quite like Chris Boardman, he seems to talk sense.
Pushing the Bike Ability programme is probably the best bet, it's got to be better than number plates and insurance for every bike!

Re:

Chris Boardman was awesome, meting out exactly the right level of appalled derision at lines like "So what do you think to the suggestion that all bikes should be equipped with numberplates?" We are lucky to have him - a revered Olympian who has grown into a determined and persuasive advocate for every type of bike riding.

And that frothing taxi driver - just why exactly was he so frothing? Some lad on a bike was approaching him on his side of the road, on the outside of a queue of standing traffic. And in addition to doling out some actual mortal peril to said cyclist, frothing taxi driver bloke feels the need to go on national radio and sling a bit of mud at cyclists in general.

I was a taxi driver for 6 years but then look at my hobby!

I still drive some 30-40k a year and my only real gripe is the two abreast (which is legal, but...) and three abreast (which is illegal) but its so rare:

https://www.gov.uk/rules-for-cyclists-5 ... w-59-to-71

never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends

We have a local letters page and some old git is moaning that cyclists dont use the cycle routes:

Use cycle routes, advanced stop lines, cycle boxes and toucan crossings unless at the time it is unsafe to do so. Use of these facilities is not compulsory and will depend on your experience and skills, but they can make your journey safer. These are marked by a white line (which may be broken) along the carriageway (see Rule 140). Keep within the lane when practicable. When leaving a cycle lane check before pulling out that it is safe to do so and signal your intention clearly to other road users. Use of cycle lanes is not compulsory and will depend on your experience and skills, but they can make your journey safer.
