This is on marketplace near me. I don't really need another project but I like this bike. I'm not very familiar with this one. It looks like it has a nasty dent on the chainstay. What do you think? It's probably worth the money just for parts.
I think that is an SM600 with 24" wheels. Late 80's and desireable. Such a shame about that chainstay. That is an odd place to get a dent and weirdly it looks like it has been done with a tool like you might use on the inside of the chainstay , for tyre clearance. Hard to say from that photo though.
I think the one you are looking at is the 26" wheeled version. I think. I am no expert and there seems to be a 24x24, a 26 front x 24 rear and a 26x26 . Anyhow....i think all are desirable as they are early with the double u brake. Here is another pic showing that crimp
Am going to stick with my bet that it is a 24x24 from 1985-1987. I may still be wrong though . Sometimes it is obvious it is a 24" wheel and in other pics not so. It definitely isnt a 26x24 that is clear to see!
This is why I'm on this website all the time. Thanks for the info. If it's still available when I get home from my vacation in a few days, I'll get it. Thanks!
Pedal clearance makes sense. It's an unusual design for sure. Aluminum at that time is rare. The BMX influence is obvious. They were just figuring things out at the time.
