Crusty old Cannondale

It looks 26 26 to me. I have a green 26 26 frameset with the front and rear roller cams, waiting for me to do something with. I have a 24 24, it is small and fun to ride. The 24 24 that I have is the first year with the sidepull rear brake. I don't remember ever seeing a 24 24 from the same generation as the bike above with the roller cams. Yes, the crimp is for clearance. Many of the early Cannondales cracked. Also the cable guides often break out. Which is the case on my green one. They made replacement cable guides, which I have a bunch of somewhere.

Nice. It’s the same as mine.

The SM600 was available either as a 2x26” or a mullet. 26” on the front and a 24” on the back.

So I just found this 24 x 26 sm600 with a shimano deore drive and suntour roller cam brakes, that is in better condition. I might try to get this one instead. From what I can see, I think the white one is an 87 sm800 26 x 26 with a Suntour XC 9000 groupset (precursor to XC Pro). What are the odds of finding two of these in a week?

The « crusty » white ‘dale is a 1987 SM400, not really à mtb but a very cool cruiser bike. Seems to be with all original parts
😀

For resuming : Cannondale began with 26x24 in 1984, more adapted for climbing in the East tracks of USA. In 1985, 26x26 appeared in catalogs. I’m not totally sure of the year but between 1987 to 1990, the smallest 16” size used 24x24 on beast of the east geometry (16” 3.0 frames which appeared in 1989 were both 26”)
The 1988 black SM 600 was the last 26x24 bike made by Cannondale

The sm400 appears to have cantaleaver brakes. The catalog specs them as Dia Compe 960. The crusty white one has roller cams.

Good decision
For owning some 26-24 ‘dale, they are very cool : take fun with them !
Yes, I was wrong :
The crusty white seems to be the white version of the 87 SM 800 and the grey is a 87 SM 600
