Creaky cranks

I've got a set of AC forged cranks that I love, but they're creaking and it's really starting to wind me up! I think its due to movement between the crank and the spider but no matter how tight I get the lock ring they still creak under load. Is there anything I can do about it?

Check for cracks! You might not see them with it being stationary!
an old school check which was used by the RAF was to fully degrease
the alloy part, then dip the part in very thin oil and allow to soak thoroughly
then wipe off the oil, leave for a few hours and then check for any fine crack
lines which will show up as the oil seeps out of any such cracks.

You know 'over tightening' cranks maybe the cause of the creaking
as the square taper gradually gets bigger & bigger to the point this happens.

Re:

Grease the splines.
Grease the crank/spider interface.
Grease the spider/ chainring interfaces.
Grease pedal/ crank interfaces.
Grease BB threads
Use steel chainring bolts.
Copperslip would do

Would have been far quicker to just type 'grease everything' :P
