when i worked in the school system some schools would do their own checks regardless of the fact i already had on ethrough the county council..i think in a lot of cases the companies just dont know what tthey should do and play safe in what ever method they feel is the best.im glad i dont work in that enviorement anymore as its very stressfull...

You can't be too careful. I know people will point to cases where dodgy folks have slipped through the net, but I hate to think how many more would were we not insistent on them. In light of recent events I would actually prefer them to tighten up the legislation and use techniques like profiling. Yet the Tories want to do away with a lot of the safeguards. :roll:

Most european and certain other countries that have similar checks are linked to each other, so with permission these checks can be completed from the country of inquiry. This case from the UK.
So I dont really think thats the problem highlandsflyer as cchris2lou's would be completed from the Uk the same as anyone elses.

Agreed. I don't think Chris mentioned where he had been though, so possibly not somewhere with a reciprocal agreement. In his case maybe all is well, but there should be no exceptions to complete disclosure, yet there are! I think we ought to man up as a society and take the bull by the horns with this issue. In light of the recent media coverage of numerous cases you would think this would be a vote winner for the government, yet they are dragging their heels!

From the other side of things - when I was in the taxi (full 'enhanced' CRB check btw) one of my regular customers worked at a home for young people and adults with special needs.

Two 'clients' were very friendly with each other so as my customer was on duty they decided to lock the door to one of them for the night so they didnt disturb each other or other clients.

That simple action cost them there job and they are now permanently on file as unable to work with children and vulnerable adults.

The taxi firm I worked for also had a genuine pedophile working for them and it was only when the enhanced CRB check was introduced (this is some time ago) that he was found out and removed. Again he would now be on a few lists as above.

Going further back, a prominent local policeman had abused children in his care whilst also working at a local community centre. He used to visit schools and organize day trips with absolutely no-one any the wiser to what he was until he went to trial in the mid 1990's.

The system cannot prevent the fire and it only seems to be able to put it out once its burnt the house down.

It can be very hard for victims to come forward, again, the act has happened, a CRB check isnt going to find this out until that victim eventually comes forward.

on my renewal form , you only need to provide the addresses for the past 5 years .

we are very strong on safety and no new member of staff is allowed to start work till the DBS is received .

I dont understand what you mean by where I have been before . been living in the UK since 1996 . France before that .
