Back in March 2011, our boiler burst last year causing it to flood the kitchen up to 4 inches deep, killing off the cupboards etc, etc...

We were told to get it assessed and to forward 3 separate quotes. We did this and while the insurers faffed, each of the companies went bust so we had to do it all again. Roll on to this year, after replacing the boiler at our own cost, the insurers sent in an independent assessor and all that.

5 separate companies quoted around £9k to £11k to repair the damage and replace the now dry but thoroughly rotted kitchen units and worktop (its a fairly big kitchen).

We receive a cheque today for £988.72...

I give up... Stinky kitchen, no oven, blown worktops, smelly cupboards and no kick boards left.

poor pay-out

Time to complain heavily and contact the FSA about them, I may be wrong, but I understand that each time you contact a providers ombudsman (FSA, OFCOM, OFGEM etc) the company get fined for failing in your complaint, that’s how these organisations are funded. How did they justify the paltry pay-out?
