Read the Coogan article the other day; pretty good piece actually, but then again never having been a big fan of Clarkson I'm a bit biased! I do sometimes wonder - based on the quality of some of his other BBC2 output on popular science or kids' toys (Toy Stories and Big Ideas were both particularly good, whilst that booze show with Oz Clarke has gone downhill since they got Hugh Dennis in instead) - why James May carries on with Toss Gear, but I suppose cash-wise he's doing nicely out of it.

There really is only one crime in comedy, and that is not being funny.

Time for these jerks to remember why they are on the TV, it certainly is not for their comic genius.

No one should be paying a license fee to prop up this kind of reactionary drivel.

And just why do those two sycophants tolerate the lack of coverage of two wheeled vehicles on the show?

They are both keen bikers, where are the bikes?

With all the environmental concern of late, where are the bicycles?

The show is basically cliched repetitive bs these days, with all journalistic content shelved in favour of the presenters' challenges and so forth.

It is not that May is not a good presenter, he is great on his own shows, but on TG he resorts to the idle fop stooging for Clarkson's tired banter, as does the brain damaged chap.

They need to get rid of the big wrinkled chap who thinks he is the new Jonathan Ross.

i tend to miss topgear when it's on on sundays but i do tend to catch it sometimes on the DAVE channel when it's repeated, i haven't seen the latest mexican based show but i love some of the stuff they have done, the epic stuff mainly, the arctic one, the amazon one, also the one across botswana(?) also i love the races between public transport and whatever big car they choose (although the veyron is getting boring in this role).

with regards to them being offensive, yes, sometimes they are, sometimes it's funny sometimes it's not but that's no different to most people who aren't comedians who are trying to be funny.

as far as being full on offensive goes, at times, yes definitely.

i do however think that some take the political correctness to far, i read an article in a paper a day or so ago, which i thought was quite an interesting point of view. it said something along the lines of:-


bigotry is wrong in all it's forms and the people as a whole should not be like this, but has it gone to far? meaning political correctness etc, because it has gotton to the point where there are fewer and fewer real bigots out there so the super political correct people are now so powerful with their views that the normal minded people who are not bigots are now getting rounded on. so, does this mean that the super political correct obsessed people are the new bigots of the world?

i think the article was about the lady who complained about the "jungle drums" comment at a council meeting.

some very good points
while its easy to agree with them its hard to tarnish top gear as a show as its well liked or is it that it used to be and now its just become routine as has theyre slurs

a jibe here and there, fair enough but it is as suggested, racism. ok theyve done it before but like steve said, they could back it up. maybe they have actually run out of steam?
new cars come out, ok, but how dynamic can a presenter be with one given programme

i actually really like top gear but enough is enough i suppose

but admitting it is no excuse. 3 appearances damages the article's credibility IMO. Going on once in ignorance is ok, but actively participating or even taking dosh (I guess the stars get paid??) is hypocritical. Had his subsequent appearances attempted to get back at the show, then I'd have bought it.
TBH, the show is tired. I seldom laugh out load these days, even on the last xmas special, but its light harted and raises a snigger on the evening before work starts and that'll do me.

But you know what they say - there's no such thing as bad publicity

Sorry, I disagree.

I read the article, and he clearly makes the point he's been on the show, several times, and suggests, perhaps tongue-in-cheek, that he's unlikely to be asked back.

But paraphrasing, what he's saying is that he feels that Jezza's pantomime baddy has gone too far, and the ugly sisters too much in his shadow.

In reading his article, I didn't suddenly think "What a raving hypocrit... you've been on the show 3 times!", I thought there's somebody who you'd normally expect to defend "edgy" humour, and normally expect to be aligned to the show, simply saying when he thinks something has gone too far - and I agree - it's been going that way for a while.

But hey, it gets ratings, right - so no harm, no foul.
