If your researches are linkable, Rk., I for one would be interested to know what you have discovered.

I'm writing an article, when published I'll send you a link via pm: doubt much interest here - arcane subject.

Rk.

Back in my day which was the 70's my experience was that outsourced frames were not numbered by the builder but stamped in the shop on delivery. Peripatetic and in house builders sometimes stuck their stamp on somewhere as well as the employers frame number. I think Kevin Sayles has his own mark at Woodrup?

Frame arrived today.

The H/T badge has the number of Grays Inn Rd obscured /ground out which is odd

Lovely smooth consistent shorelines on the very nice lugs. Clearly beautifully crafted and brazed.

Not that odd. Condor may have had a stock of badges with their old address on and ground the number off after they moved up the road? Speculation. If so, that might suggest that your frame was refinished in the early eighties rather than the late seventies.

These were frames destined for 'Cliff Pratt' badging? Does that mean that the frames were delivered unpainted?

Slowly cleaning off the old lacquer, Chrome is in fine condition underneath

I had a 60 Mercian with Allen bolt if it helps. Lovely frame, look forward to the build.
