Concorde restoration - on a budget

Dirt Disciple
I promised member chickendrumsticks I'd post a restoration thread on the Concorde that I bought from him way back in November?
He'd bought it in the same condition that I got it off him, as he'd had no time to work on it.

So here's how it started. Disgusting colour, and poorly painted.

Strip down time. Luckily everything came apart fairly easily, seatpost wasn't stuck, BB wasn't fused into the shell. Hardest part to remove were the headset bearing cups, as there was some paint in the headtube. As you can see the rear mech pulleys were disgusting, as were the BB bearings on the Omas BB.

That was it for a while, I was ill in December and it was too cold in my garage to do anything. So nothing got done until end of March, when I stripped the paint off the frame. I could have got it blasted, but as the title says, it's on a budget 🙂 Seems like the forks and rear triangle were chromed, and I could see why it'd been painted, as it was pitted in the usual places. Wish I'd had it blasted, as some of the paint was harder than a diamond in places

As usual the crank arms couldn't be restored without major expense, so they've been satin sanded until I can find some cranks in good condition for a reasonable price. I've got some period dual pivot brakes to go on, as the ones on it were mismatched and not in brilliant condition. Seatpost however polished up beautifully as all Campag bare alloy does. Shifter blades have also been lightly satin sanded. I'm not sure which 8 speed groupset they're from.

...Concorde isn't a real manufacturer it's a trademark of a Belgium trading company only, most of frames has been build in Italy (... some say by Giovanni Pelizzoli of Ciöcc a former Coppi mechanic?) In 1980 Pelizzoli sold his company to CONTI . But my knowledge is that later some of Concorde frame sets also had been build in Japan

Difficult to say where or when it was built. The Ciocc thing is a red herring from what I've read

It's got an Italian tricolour on the top tube, so makes it Italian enough for me 😃
