Did you enjoy the book Neil? I thought it was a great story that was well told. It's a pity that Cliff Stoll's follow-up -- "Silicon Snake Oil" -- was such a whiny, negative rant about everything modern.

A requirement of your job to read it? Sounds like time well spent.

A requirement of your job to read it? Sounds like time well spent. In contrast, the Gary McKinnon page on Wikipedia suggests that lessons from "The Cuckoo's Egg" have either not been learned or too easily forgotten...

Yes, I did enjoy it - I must try and make the effort to read it again, as it would have been the early 90s (92 / 93) when I read it.

As to the "job requirement" comment, I suspect it was a part tongue-in-cheek comment from my then big-boss - he always seemed to have a sort of not-quite-serious aspect to some things he said - but it was a good thing to read at the time, and he was a very good big-boss.

Haven't read anything else by Stoll, though.
