to clear up a bit of confusion ..

campag 7 speed is spaced same as shimano 7 speed.

campag 8 speed is not spaced the same as shimano 8 speed per latman's post. Campag 8 speed is in fact spaced the same as 7 speed, but with one extra cog added.

make sure the campag wheel you buy can take the 7 speed cassette. Newer 9/10 speed is a different spline to 8 (not sure about 7 speed campag hub spline pattern, never had one

shimano 8 is the same spacing as shimano 7 too , but 4mm wider OLD for the extra cog ?

No, Shimano 8 is spaced at 4.8mm whereas 7 is spaced at 5.0.
It doesn't sound like much, but by the end of a cassette and with with a bit of grot on the cables it's enough to give very rattly running.

Re:

I'd just buy a shimano rear wheel, put a sunrace or BBB 8spd cassette onto it, and use 8spd campy shifters with 8spd mriage or veloce derailleurs.

cheapest solution.

Trust me. I've measured sunrace and BBB cassettes, cog&spacers, and the spacing was exactly 5mm. Confirmed the "desktop" results with putting a rear wheel into my bike and riding it. No chain rattle, no noise, perfect&smooth&rapid shifting.

I've covered the same .... in your thread at CTC :D :D

before anyone would tell that sunrace is ..... quality, i'd like to emphasize, that their freewheels is something I'd avoid at any cost, but their cassettes are pretty decent and cheap also. THey won't last as long as campy ones, but will cover many-many miles and have very good shifting. :)

Re:

Thanks again for the advice. Put bike together last night looks nice, went for a quick spin current set up needs some tweaks. Here's my plan get new brakes, look to use campag shifter (8 speed) and then get a campag rear mech.I'm not in any major rush but if anyone has any campag rear needs lying around if be interested. I'm going to post in the wanted section. I will also have a few bits to shift. Thanks again Jon

Buy a full Athena gruppo for 45k HUF or for 60k with wheelz :)

http://apro.bikemag.hu/browse/orszaguti ... 24340.html

http://themoneyconverter.com/HUF/GBP.aspx conversion: 162 pounds with wheelset (plus cranks-cassette-shifterz-dérailleurs-chain-brakes) or 121.5 GBP sans route

There's another guy now @ FB who's trying to sell a Sachs New Success full set with wheels-tyres-freewheel for 50 (handlebars and stem included). Too bad the shipping of these bulky things can cost as much as 15 pounds (with DPD courier service).

If you can find a cheapo RD somewhere. GO for it. Post a WTD here and at LFGSS, look around at ebay. You'll never know what you'll find :)
