Cheers guys, comments appreciated.
Well, the bike is now running like clockwork
This frame wouldn't have been my first choice (I wanted another steely!) but I've been after the basis for a tough tourer for a while and this frame came to my attention so cheaply. As well as the price I also liked the disc mounts, big clearances and top tube routing for all the cables. I don't like buying complete, building strange bikes is one of my main passions
Before I bought the frame I had the wheels built already, the bars, stem, saddle, brakes etc. Had to keep to a mega tight budget for this build. Result feels a bit like my old Uncle John but with better brakes and more braze-ons! And I found the 50/34 on the latter bike quite annoying, was forever front shifting, this feels much better.
Incidentally, the frame originally had flat bars and my Ultegra shifters are not triple specific, they're the older double or triple type which I know from experience are prone to issues on a triple. The CX70 fm should be ideal given it's capacity, cage shape and design for smaller outer ring.
I think despite the seemingly odd approach I think I've got just ratios I need, learned a lot and had fun building it!
