I would guess that it's because steel is very in vogue at the moment. Also it's considered the 'classic' Master - as with classic cars there will always be certain years of a certain model that for some reason are more desirable than others.

I wonder if alloy will fetch higher prices in the future? Maybe a good investment?

I guess You are referring to the Mega Master? - more of a variation on the Dream than a Master IMHO

Quick update (mostly for Mike )
Got the wheel decals on and finally found some 1" Easton EC90 forks at a sensible price. Nearly, nearly finished - got a Dura Ace seatpost on it's way and will paint the forks black.
