Hi

I've just bought a 1996 Master Olympic Art Decor frame.

Could anyone advise on what are the correct components that would have been fitted?

Also, is there anyone UK based who could renovate the complex paintwork? It needs touching up in several places.

Thanks

Congratulations on getting that frame - a true classic. Do feel free to show us some pictures (hint, hint...).

As for who can re-touch the complex paint work - depends how much to do. Atlantic Boulevard have re-finished a lot of Colnagos (including a C40 of mine earlier this year). They are good, but rather expensive. Neil, there sands down and re-sprays the frame in small sections, so may be well placed to help on the touch-up approach - worth a call to discuss. http://www.atlantic-boulevard.co.uk/
Otherwise it is worth a chat with one or two of the traditional re-finishers (Mercian, Argos in Bristol, Bob Jackson etc), although I suspect they will be happier providing a complete re-spray in one or two colours, than touching up an existing complex scheme.

Good luck. Oh and did I mention the need for photos...?

David

Here are some photos...

As you can see, there are a few areas that have been badly touched up on the frame.

Hi.

Just like to say that you have purchased a very nice Colnago. I have exactly the same frame with the same art decor. I bought mine in 1997 new and at the same time i bought the the first addition 9spd Dura-Ace. I still have it and it's in wonderful condition. I will be posting photos of the bike in the next few weeks if you would like any indication, ideas, on how it looks when built up. :)

Hi

It would be good to see a fully built bike, with the same frame...

Sure! Leave it with me. I'm not in the digital age with cameras but i have a friend who lends me a digi cam when needed. I will let you know when they are posted.

Thanks for the feedback.

Does anyone know what bars, bar tape, wheels and saddle would have been when the bike was new?

Hi.

I've taken the photos but unfortunately the battery has run out of juice so i am waiting for the adaptor. Hopefully today or tomorrow i will have them on line.

The equipment for these old frames is difficult to get these days. No longer can you go in to a local bike shop and buy what you need. Handle bars, stem, tape, down to personal preference. You will need a 1" quill stem perhaps Cineli, look did some stems in the 90's which were OK. Bars something like Cineli Giro 64-42.

You can still buy retro bar tape from the local bike shop, Fi'zi:k make some nice retro tape. Seat it might be best to buy something modern. I have a specilized titanium railed toupe 143 and looks very nice and importantly comfortable, see photo when posted.

Wheels a pair of Mavics which you can still buy over the counter. The wheels i have are a pair of Ambrosio nemesis 36 hole built with top end Swiss double butted spokes, nice! The 36 hole rim is a traditional set up, weight could be argued by some but it does provide a solid ride and the bike itself is never going to be super light anyway!

Brick Lane Bikes, London, could be a port of call regarding the handle bars and stem.
