Cleaning / Preserving the INSIDE of a steel frame

Sorry, i have to ask.
WTF is 'Tinfoiling ' ?? :?

Just in case you're serious, I think it has something to do with aluminium being higher in the electrochemical series than steel, so a reaction happens and some sort of transformation happens to the oxide...(it stops being rust and becomes some black stuff)

Anyway, I'm going to add this thread to the hints & tips sticky just in case anymore good suggestions come along..

Totally serious about the tinfoiling. Here you go.

Take a steel coat hanger and straighten in out. Put a tight bend in one end to help hold in in the drill chuck and a looser bend at the other to take a folded bit of tin foil.

Put the tinfoil in half way across and roll it round the hanger tight enough to go in frame.

Once in, set the drill to spinning and move up and down.

If the foil gets too compacted or smooths itself, reverse the direction.

Da da ....clean tubes. Especially good for crusty seatpost and bottom brackets.

Huge success. Recommended! Thanks! This is after four passes (new foil each time). Granted, this BB wasn't that bad to begin with. Still, impressive. (Tried to order these in correct sequence. The last one is what the foil looked like when it came out of my seat tube.)

Proper job, now get some grease in there

Re:

Great. Old trick, but it does work.

Only problem is that the Mrs keeps wondering why her clothes are on the floor of the wardrobe!

"Tinfoiling"

Yup, totally new to me.
If its just to clean, then a wire brush wheel will do a much better job :?
They have a central hole, so can screw onto any length of shaft to get anywhere it will fit and different diameters.
I'm using the smallest attached to a metal bar with a threaded hole in one end, in the drill and it is for clearing any build up of gunk from steerer tubes. Does a marvelous job too.
