Clean and protect matt frame

Hi everyone,
I want to clean and wax my matt frame so to protect it from wet rides in winter.
I've never waxed a matt finished surface, so my question is: can it be done without ruining the paint?
When I say wax, I mean the car wax that makes the paint waterproof.

I use Muc Off Matt finish detailer. Cleans off greasy marks and helps water bead on the surface. Works well on my Matt finish carbon frame. Sure there will also be car related products in Halfords that are similar.
As always, test a hidden area first.

In my wisdom I’m running a matte black bike for autumn / spring riding (basically when it’s damp but not wet for the winter one) which means it gets pretty dirty often.

I just wash it as normal and it looks like new still even after a full year now. I don’t buy into all the matte wax and products.
