Claud Butler Vitara - have you seen another?

Dirt Disciple
Back in 1992ish, I was keen to move on from my quite frankly lethal chrome rimmed Mustang. I emptied my post office savings and headed to the original Paul's Cycles in Diss. (I can still smell it if I close my eyes).

My £350 pounds secured me a Claud Butler Vitara. Impossibly fat tubes, endless purple and it changed my life. I don't think I've ever been happier.

Over the years it was broken up and disappeared but was never forgotten. I never saw another one in real life or on the net.

Imagine my surprise when one popped up on marketplace, just a few miles down the road. In a remarkable set of coincidences, it was for sale on the road I chance met my partner on 20 years ago!

I've fixed the gummed up shifters, replaced the seized bb chain and fettled it to perfection. It came with the original steel bars and bar ends but they were rusty and SO thick and heavy they ruined the ride. I've kept them but swapped these alloy bars as I intend to ride it and they're so much nicer.

Took it out for its proper first spin today, it rides so nicely. The original Tioga Wonder Dawg's are still supple and the hum they make on tarmac immediately transported me back 30 years.

I know it's far from desirable bling but it's absolutely a keeper.

Very nice. Pop up the frame number. I'm always very happy to add another early aluminium frame to my list! I can let you know if I find anything interesting.
