89/90 I'd think so too.
Shimano on seat tube.. dx, lx,xt?. Will be full groupset though.

Bikes up near the roof so I couldn't see the groupset, no one about to ask so will enquire next time I'm there.

That graphic style was introduced Nov ‘89, and finished Nov ‘92.
The coloured line behind “CLAUD BUTLER” was slightly different each year.
1990 - single colour single “M” mountain logo
1991 - single colour double “M” mountain logo
1992 - double colour double “M” mountain logo
If you can get a closer look or sharper photos I could have a good stab at an ID but black could be a Cape Wrath (although a few others very low end catalogue HP units were also black)

I am a fan of these lesser groupsets the lx 500/400 and earlier exages.. they just work. Made in Japan..
