We've just had both our wing mirrors taken off our Citroen Xsara Picasso by a bunch of bloody teenagers, reported it to police. They are hanging on their what I assume are wires to the motors. It's dark so leaving it to tomorrow to see what damage is done.

Does anyone know if they just snap back on ? Cost of these things ?

Also is it legal to drive without wing mirrors as it's the wife car and we've only just bought it after she pat her test (I don't drive) and we need it to drive our youngest to Hospital appointments (Cerabral Palsy) pretty much every day or so.

No legal requirement for wing mirrors and they may snap back on.. can make parking interesting though ;)

Most unclip in 1 axis.. at least.

you have to have the drivers one on but not the passengers. if a vehicle is in a state that wont pass an mot it can be classed as un roadworthy.

Sorry to hear that Ben :(

If they are beyond repair give this guy a ring - http://www.melbourne-autos.co.uk/

I used to use him regularly and he's a top bloke, should save you a fortune over brand new ones.

Give me a shout if you need any help putting new ones on or finding that scrapyard in the link

My info source says :

Obligatory mirrors are
a. an exterior mirror fitted to the offside (right-hand side when seated in the driver's seat), or
b. an exterior mirror fitted to the nearside (left-hand side when seated in the driver's seat), or
c. an interior mirror..

It also says that if mirrors are fitted they must be serviceable..

Could be wrong though :?

They should go back in unless they have damaged the mountings. Just had to put one back on the saxo i am selling and that clipped in.

If not go ghetto and tape them on to get you by.

Then start a vigilante movement...

Mines been gaffer taped on for over 2 years I stopped getting it fixed after the third time, as long as it is adjustable (by hand) and the glass isn't cracked it is legal (mine has a stick on mirror over the broken one).

Had a look this morning the 'mirror' is fine and one side has a notch broken out of it, seem like a locator. Plus a dent in the body work where it must have been bashed back

bloody cyclist! They where on bikes, guess they kicked them forward on the move to get enough force.
Hell my Wife drove one of the mirrors into our wall and damage the wall, just a scratch on the mirror casing

Took it apart as much as I could and they don't just clip on :(, I need to push some cyclinder down into the attachment on the car. Problem is there is a bloody great big spring to push against and from what I've tried I cannot compress it enough (tried modern G-glamp... may try a retro Wing nut G-clamp though)
Found the part that snapped off and I'll see if I can glue that on.

They are electric mirrors and heated (posh I know, lol but standard on the car) and all that gubbins is fine but the wires did keep them 'attached' to the car.
I have some black duck tape here at work so going to borrow that for a temporary measure. Certainly more classy than the silver stuff I have at home.

Police where informed and I know some other mirrors have been knocked of over teh past couple of weeks.
No crime number yet as the 'computer system' for humberside police was down, budget cuts I guess

Sorry to read. Having owned a car once i know how you felt
Wing mirrors have a hard life :(

I rode past a parked car and my coat caught it and pulled the mirror off

ANther time a van driver went past to close to me and his mirror hit my elbo and smashed off his mirror, didn't feel a thing.

invent some thing better some one
