I'm in need of a Cinelli 1R stem 100 x 22mm or longer. Not your much more usual 22.2mm.
Even if its incomplete i.e. missing the clamp parts as I already have them.
This is for a French PX10-DU hense the 22mm internal fork diameter.
I don't want to ream it out if I can possible avoid it.

thanks
Chris

I have done this several time with great success when I have been "unlucky" enough to be restoring a French Cycle.
Good Luck.

French stems are 0.2mm narrower than others where they fit into the steering column. A standard 7/8" / 22.2mm stem won't usually fit. In many cases, the limiting factor for fitting the stem in will be the headset locknut, rather than the steerer itself. Try removing the locknut before sanding down a stem. If the headset locknut is slightly tighter than the steerer, it can be enlarged easily with a small grinding wheel.

In cases where the stem really won't fit into the steerer, a few minutes' work on the stem with sandpaper will usually do the trick. Wrap the sandpaper around the stem, grip it with your hand, and turn the stem round and round until it fits. You only need to remove 0.1 mm, which is 1/250", not much at all!

That will be a last resort but thanks for your input.

Re:

I managed to get an XA stem into my Gitane, albeit not all the way down though. Without sanding it down.

Good luck, buddy

Hi Chris

Think i've got one in the shed,

I started a Vitus 979 project earlier this year and the first frame i had was French, i found a crack on the rear dropout and have replaced with an English threaded frame.

I had a 1R for the French frame which i got from france, sure its around 100mm

Hi Simples
Yes I'm still in need of a 22mm one, 10cm or longer would be ok for the length, but anything shorter is no good.
Please let me know if you find it & the condition its in, plus how much you want for it.

Thanks

Chris

Re:

Hi Chris

I've moved recently and I think I remember seeing it in a box in my shed. I'll dig it out tomorrow, pm me your email and I'll send you some photos.
