Cherry brakes guys ?

Just going through a few long forgotten boxes and found a Cherry brakeset in fine condition - hoods long gone though.

Am I correct; were these made by Dia Compe so would Dia Compe hoods fit ? Thought I might use them on a 70s build - that's the period I assume?

Did you mean 70's build? I can remember them so I guess they are nutted and not Allen key. Which puts them as late-ish 70's to early eighties. Very Weinmann looking and shiny if memory serves.

yes 70s build, I've corrected the typo.

I've two '70s race frames awaiting restoration and build after I've finished my '75 Philbrook tourer.

The Cherry's are better quality IMO (esp finish-wise) than Weinmanns, and they are nutted.

By the 80's Dia-Compe seemed to be using codes rather than names except for the 'Gran Compe' ranges.

Brakes are branded Cherry (on the levers and calipers - Japan cast in the backs of the calipers), I am unsure if (a) Dia Compe made them, and (b) if they are 1970s.

Hence the question.

The finish is superior to Weinmann and as good as Shimano.

Any thoughts people?

I'm virtually 100% sure Dia Comp made them, I remember them coming with Dia Comp stuff with the Rep. Again I'm almost 100% sure they are 70's as I remember handling them. Shimano 600 rivals

I bet if you filed off the 'Cherry' branding nobody would be able to tell them apart from Weinmann 500's. Even the QR's are the same. Did Weinmann and Dia-Compe have some sort of trading arrangement - or are they blatent copies?
