Is that a crack in the fillet between head and bottom tube in the 12th pic down??

Thats a great challenge for a resto though, the rougher the better IMO 8)

Aww man, this is hard!
I wanna do right by my baby. It's like finding home for a favourite pet... or getting your daughter married off!

In fact, I'm finding your enthusiasm infectious... I kinda want to keep the ol' gal now. I didn't know I was riding a retrobike, it was just my (lovely) bike. I never realised my old bike was so desirable... Well, I did for the first few years, when it attracted plenty of attention. But now, most folk don't appreciate the beauty I see (the fact I had draped panniers, barbags, muffs and assorted caggage might have something to do with that).
But, with a more sober head on, I know she would be better off with someone who would give her the TLC she needs.

You seem like a good bunch and I'm struggling to decide who should have it.
Makster had a good idea. He suggested I should auction it off for charity. Sounds like a bit of a plan, d'ya reckon?
Be good to raise a bit for CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia In Children), I have a nephew who's going through the mill with Leukaemia.
Dunno how to make this fly, but I'm sure you have some ideas. Go via ebay or something informal on the forum?

If you are gonna bid on this, you'll need a bit more info. I'll take some better photos tomorrow and post 'em up with a better description.

Another option could be a form of raffle? It would obviously depend on how many people would be interested in taking the bike on as a project, but I'm sure there would be plenty who would be willing to take a punt at say £5 a 'ticket'. Even in the condition its in now, I would think there would be a fair few people interested.

Also like the idea of one of the more established forum member like lgf getting hold of it and giving it a good refurb and then going down the auction/raflle route.
Maybe some of the parts donated to mazdaman for his 'charity' build could be returned and put to good use

Altenatively, you could just give it to me so it can keep my Pioneer company

If whoever ends up with this wants an original Deore rear mech to go with those shifters let me know as I have one you can have for nowt. I also have a set of those shifters in good nick if either of those don't work..

Sorry about the delay, life kinda got in the way.

After being sorely tempted to keep the thing, I have made the decision to find it a new home. I am gonna give 'er a good scrub up and post some proper pictures.

Then I will ask for sealed bids by PM. The highest bidder will then send me a cheque made out to CLIC (cancer and Leukaemia In Children) and arrange their own shipping.

Does that sound reasonable?

Loving the thread - although I'm still a little worried that the forks in particular appear to have accident damage, which may impact on the condition of frame and your future decisions.

Compare the rake with my (repainted) Pioneer frame and forks of the same vintage.

IMHO it would be worth checking out at the LBS before you go further.

Mr K

Sealed bids by PM to me, by 2100 on Monday 3rd August.
The highest bidder will then send me a cheque made out to CLIC (cancer and Leukaemia In Children) and arrange their own shipping.

Any problems with that?

uh-oh... bent down tube...
You are mistaken sir, Straight as a die (as is the top tube and the seat tube). I checked 'em with a steel rule. I can post more pics if you want.

You may have a point there, I never noticed it, but that may be an indication of my cavalier attitude! I did have a prang, years back; an inadvisable leap of a ditch, which resulted in a rebuilt front wheel. Have a look at the new photos, and make up your own mind. I measured the wheelbase (from axle centres), it is 1038mm; how does that compare with your Pioneer?

Haha, no  ... that crack was only mud-deep!

Very noble gesture sir and a very challenging restoration project.

I have opened the bidding- you have PM

Cheers
