got to agree with andrew iv'e been using the 7701 dura ace/xtr chains for a while and there work perfetly for me. kmc are ok but shimano always works well when used with shimano, plus the kmc x-9sl chain maybe a little lighter but you pay top doller for it and it'll not last longer than the xtr chain if any thing it'll last less time

andy b kmc only make one shimano chain the ug51  other than that shimano make there own

Agreed. Use DA 9 chains on all my 9 speed bikes, never had a problem. If they're on offer worth stocking up imo.

If joined correctly you'll have no issue with shimano chains, after all when was the last time you heard of a pro race lost due to a broken chain? You can even use a power link for convenience / if you don't have a decent chain tool.

It all depends how how much you ride and in what conditions. My LBS told me that it's your chain that wears out the rest of the drive train (ok nothing surprising there!) so replace it more often to save the rest of the kit.

I used to use xtr or dura ace chains, very nice to look at and lighter than most but because i spent a lot of money on it i was reluctant to change it, but it got to a stage where it really needed to. But when i put a new chain on.......low and behold i needed a new cassette, two front rings and new jockey wheels.

Now i use a cheap chain and have no problems with shifting etc and replace it ever 4-6 months depending on riding conditions. I have found no difference with sram or shimano except maybe the sram one snaps a little more often but is easier to take off the bike and degrease, but that goes back to buy cheap and change more often.

If you don't do that many miles and it tends to be in nice weather then go for a bling chain!!!

I've changed my mind about sram, i've just been in the garage fitting one......................what a p.o.s. Power link! more like power scream tug pull ow snap cut ow bang bang @*$! throw in bin and fit the shimano one back on and get a dura ace chain from Rutland link!!!!

Forget the rest and fit the best...

...Rohloff SLT99.

Come over and see them in action, still unstretched after 2 years! No other chain will match them, and I have tested, stretched and snapped the rest.
