Anybody ever come across one of these? This was my first real MTB, 531 frame and forks in a marble grey finish, full XT groupo, XT hubs on Araya rims. Got it from halfords in early 1990. Upgraded mine with Mavic headset and bottom bracket, gold Shoktech forks, Zoom stem, bars and seatpin, Orange Ram-bars and some nice purple anodised bits. Had some of those crazy Powergrip things on the pedals, XT beartraps, before i upgraded to SPD's. Might have a couple of photo's somewhere.

Yes, thats the one. Forgot about that brass rivet saddle, i got rid and replaced with a Avocet titanium. Fond memories. Cheers.

Yes, that was the E-stay one, it came after the one i had, around about '91 i believe. That was when everyone thought E-stay was the way forward. Its funny how the Alpinestars look really timeless with E-stays, but the Carrera looks really awkward. Loved those Alpinesters!

Yup, loved mine though it ended up getting resprayed. I put car body filler on the welds and spent ages sanding them down for a fillet brazed look. It looked really good actually. Still wanted one until very recently as bit of a dark horse frame as remember that there was loads of mud clearance at the back (well i was able to get 2.35 ritcheys in BITD) seem to remember it had an unusually wide BB shell? However in researching 531 magnum recently found out that it might only have been the main tubes that were reynolds, which kinda took the edge off it. . Remember the stem also had the bolts to take a bottle cage. Anyway posted this before but here it is...

Yes, agree about the frame being a bit of a dark horse. I thought the bike was completely underrated, never seemed to get any mentions in the mags that mattered back then. Will have to try to find my photo and get it posted.
